Use case · TallyPrime → Zoho Books
Switching from Tally to Zoho Books at year end.
The start of a financial year is the cleanest moment to move from TallyPrime to Zoho Books. Here is a practical plan for a 1 April switch — and how V2W FinBridge makes it straightforward.
Why 1 April is the best time to switch
- Clean opening balances. The new year starts from the closing balances of the old one.
- One system per year. The whole new year lives in Zoho Books; the old year stays in Tally for the audit.
- Simpler reporting. No splitting a year’s figures across two systems.
A practical timeline
January to February: plan
Decide to switch, agree the scope with your CA, and choose how much history to bring across. Set up your Zoho Books organisation and review how your Tally ledgers, parties and items will appear there.
March: prepare
Clean up duplicate ledgers and parties, check GSTINs, and reconcile bank accounts. If you want history in Zoho Books, this is a good time to bring the current year across and review it.
1 April: go live
Your team starts recording new transactions in Zoho Books from the first day of the year, using opening balances as of 31 March.
April to September: close the old year
Your CA finishes the closing year’s accounts, GST returns and audit in Tally, which stays untouched. When the audit is final, confirm your Zoho Books opening balances match the audited closing balances.
Tip: if your audit isn’t finished by 1 April, start with provisional opening balances and update them once the audit adjustments are final.
What to bring across
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Chart of accounts | Your ledgers become Zoho Books accounts |
| Customers and vendors with GSTIN | So invoices and bills carry the right GST from day one |
| Items and units | So sales and purchases use the same items |
| Opening balances as of 31 March | Your starting point in Zoho Books |
| Outstanding invoices and bills | So you can collect and pay what’s open |
| Previous years (optional) | For comparisons and reporting in one place |

FAQ
Year-end switch questions
When should I start planning a 1 April switch?
Ideally in January or February. That leaves time to agree the scope with your CA, set up Zoho Books and clean your Tally data before the year ends.
What if my audit isn’t finished by 1 April?
Start with provisional opening balances and update them in Zoho Books once the audit adjustments are final.
Where do I file March GST returns?
From Tally, since March transactions belong to the closing year there. New-year transactions are recorded in Zoho Books from 1 April.
Can I switch mid-year instead?
Yes. A mid-year switch works with opening balances as of an agreed cut-off date, and the year’s transactions can be brought across so the full year sits in Zoho Books.
